In this EPIC Embroidery Hub episode, Willy faces one of the most challenging projects yet, a fully-customized sorority jacket. Customized with large, intricate designs on the front, back and sleeves, this specialty item can be one of the most difficult and risky projects to tackle, but it also has one of the highest profit potentials in the custom apparel industry. Watch as Willy fulfills this Garmeo order from REAL customers and takes you step by step through the digitizing and embroidering process. Willy found these sorority jacket blanks online for $35 (including shipping costs.) Now, depending on the intricacies of the custom design, these kinds of jackets can be sold for up to $180, meaning you can profit up to $145 on this one garment! In this video, Willy takes you through the entire design process and offers tips on how to make a design stand out, recommended sizing, and what design choices you can make to ensure the details are clean and visible when you digitize and then embroider. Pro tip: Working with your client and going back and forth with your professional advice on a certain design will not only ensure great product outcomes, but will always leave the customer happy with your service. Once the design has been approved, it’s time to digitize using Chroma Luxe. These complex designs have plenty of small lettering and graphics, so Willy recommends using a type of run stitch called a bean stitch for those intricate details. This is because a bean stitch will embroider over the same stitch as many times as you program it to. In this case, Willy set his bean stitch to 3 repeats to get a thick, visible border. You'll also see Willy’s digitizing process for the appliqué designs on the back and front of the jacket. He also provides pro tips on how to digitize a layered design so that you only have to hoop your garment once. 00:17 Garmeo 03:14 Profit Potential 04:24 Design Tips 06:01 Digitizing Tutorial 11:30 Testing Designs 14:39 Materials and Prep 16:43 Embroidery 21:31 Finished Products As always, make sure to test your designs before embroidering, especially with a project like this when you’re using an expensive, specialty garment. Due to the size and complexity of this project, Willy uses the sash frame and flat table that come with the MT-2001-8S, 20-needle machine for the front and back designs. He then uses Mighty Hoops for the embroidery on the sleeves. These advanced and highly-customized embroidery projects can take your business to the next level and help you earn some hefty profits.
